Tucson SPORT Magazine Teams up with Activate Tucson and Challenges
Southern Arizona to Step up to the Plate and Activate at our 2nd Annual
Alltel SPORTZONE and Fit Family Challenge
September 6th, 2007- Tucson, Arizona
Tucson SPORT Magazine, along with the Activate Tucson team, will be hosting our 2nd annual
Alltel SportZONE and Fit Family Challenge, to be held Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Hi Corbett
Stadium, from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. It’s the ultimate day of play, and is free for the entire family.
The first 1,000 kids through the doors will receive a free VIP SportsPack, filled with all types of
goodies to encourage both fun recreational, and challenging competitive play, while promoting
better choices that will result in healthier families, and healthier communities.
The event features will include challenge and information areas in all three SPORT, FAMILY, and
LIFE Zones.
• The SportZone features the Nike Youth Team and Adult SPARQ Challenge, Bruegger’s
Youth All-Sport Challenge, and Dr. Jaw’s Youth Sport Expo.
• The FamilyZone, sponsored by UMC, features a Fit Family Challenge, hosted by the
YMCA, and a TEST and ASSESS Expo, hosted by UA Center for Physical Activity and
Nutrition (CPAN), the UA Pima County Cooperative Extension, and Pima Heart
Associates.
• The LifeZone will feature Raytheon’s Mental Power Station, and Freedom RV’s Outdoor
Rec. and Racing Zone.
There will be meet and greet sections with coaches and players from all levels of sports,
connecting youth, collegiate, and professional sports. Highlights include meet and greets with
U of A and Pima athletic coaches and players.
SportZONE Action Family Challenge cards will be handed out to encourage families to work
together in various challenge areas for chances to win cool prizes and giveaways throughout the
day.
Other demonstrations include fly-fishing, golf, cheerleading, plyometric training, and many other
areas that promote and encourage sport, physical activity, and fun for the entire family.
President and founder of Tucson SPORT Magazine, Lucy Howell states, “Our vision, with both
the magazine and this event, is to increase the overall flow of quality information, resources and
activities aimed directly at Southern Arizona’s active and sporting families, and to impact overall
quality of life through the celebration of family, sport, and life.” Mrs. Howell adds, “Our mission is
to establish a premier, collaborative, local, annual multi-disciplined, amateur sporting event that
will promote competitive and recreational physical activity, good sportsmanship, family fitness and
healthy lifestyles. Our goal is to play a significant role in establishing Southern Arizona as the #1
community in America to raise an active and athletic family.”
A food and drink ticket will be included for the individuals who receive a VIP SportsPack.
